I guessing switching from AC to DC might be bad, but can you adjust the ac balance while welding? how about pulse setting? how about amps? I guess it might be easier to ask what setting shouldnt be adjusted while welding

I haven't changed while welding but have changed TIG amperage, and pulse settings while the pedal/trigger was depressed (no arc) with no obvious issues...
You can certainly change amperage, ac frequency, and ac balance. I have a mate do it while I’m welding to see what difference it makes. I think you could change the pulse settings also.
The issue with working with changing amp settings etc, are mainly with transformer machines, with switches and contacts arcing between the switch points because the current passes through them.
While I agree, changing between polarity on our welder while welding isn't a smart idea, I honestly can't say anything would happen, mainly because I never "wanted" to find out what would it I did. But changing amps, freq. etc should be fine because they are controlling things electronically.
