You could always build yourself one. I am in the works of building myself a CNC Mill so I can start making parts. So far I have the total cost to be around $600-$800. Much cheaper than buying one.

I have seen a couple conversions. Ide be interested in seeing what you got. Ide love to learn all about converting a machine. I have a minimachine. It works for what I need. However, a CNC can do all sorts of curves so easily. I got to start making money off of one of my inventions before I can justify a CNC. But if I ever get anything going it will be one of the first things I get.
Well I have not really converted anything into a CNC. I purchased 5 Nema 32 stepper motors and a board that is a controller/5 driver all in one from ebay. Also got a power supply from there. I got it all for around $550 after shipping. The software is normal CNC software. I have been playing with Inventor, solidworks, mastercam and will probably use mach3 for running the machine unless the controller will run off mastercam. Having 5 motors and a controller/driver for that, I will build me a 5 axis mill. The same setup can be used for a lathe or other things if you wanted.
i'd be very interested in seeing how the mill part of that works out.
maybe later I can get some pics of how I have mine setup but all I have at this time is the electronics and there is more than 1 way they are done. I have played around with all the software and have had success with making some parts in them. I should design the table setup in a cad program and see what I come up with. I got an idea in my head of what I want to do so we will have to see. If anyone wants to ask questions I can answer what I know but it may not be much.
I was wondering if anyone knows do the submurged arc machines use a sheilding gas under the water or just the water itself to sheild the weld?
Sub arc has nothing to do with water. The arc is submerged under powdered flux while welding. The filler is hot wire or hot strip (hot meaning it is carrying the welding current that is causing the heat to melt the filler). Wire is like a mig process (although usually a fairly large diameter wire). Strip is usually a .020" X 1" wide (or similar size) strip of filler metal and is typically used for weld cladding. The flux selection is important in that it can contain a variety of alloying elements as well as shielding the weld itself (similar to stick welding).
Wow that is very interesting. What is it called when they weld in like 6" of water? I've seem it on tv before when they weld huge slabs of steel.
I want a cnc there not to bad can do one for under a 1000 . they have some good deals on ebay with the controller box and actuators. got a nice on like 4x4 for under a 1000 ready to use just have to have software and plasma cutter .

I have a friend that built his I was trying to buy. But mailed him for his input. Nice to have friends like that.
