Yamaha xs650
Thought some of you might enjoy this, and probably owned an xs650 in your time. I built this bike last year in that cold ### Ohio winter. Most of it was mig welded, yeah I know lots of grinding. Made my first set of Exhaust for it now I have guys wanted me to build them stuff. Looking into a PowerPro256 soon.Attachment 917Attachment 916Attachment 915

I've always liked the looks of the XS650 motor and it looks good in your frame, kinda British but without the electric problems. I own a 1980 XS850G that's been a great bike, but my wife says I should think about selling. Found this pic of bike without factory fairing.Attachment 918

What kind of tube bender do you use?

OK you got my attention.
How long you had that? I didn’t know there were any of these around.
Here is my XS1-B 71 model I’ve had it since 73, it’s the hot rod, kick only and higher compression. Yamaha’s first 4 stroke.
This one has been sitting, but had pulled 11 Sec. flat as set up, 16” rear and carbon clutch, always had trouble keeping a clutch in her. Interested in any parts??

Dirtyfarmer- I was told they were called the triumph without the trouble, as for that xs850 tell her she's crazy, ok maybe not a good idea but you got love hopin on that thing every now and then.
Krooks- No tube bender for the frame just two ball hitches and a cheater bar. I ordered the exhaust with multi bends and just cut and tack welded as I built them.
Ray- Good god man those 71-72 xs650's are rare nowdays, I wish you didnt live in Alaska I would probably be all over it, Very cool thanks for sharing the pic. Here is a 72 that i bought for 75.00 bucks, ended up not being able to get a title for it so parted it out.Attachment 933

This bike is awesome, great work!!!! Did you modify the stock frame or is everything new for the frame? It almost looks like the front part of the engine cradle is still factory.

Trays,
I got rid of a '65 panhead Electroglide, when I bought the 850 new in 1981. Should have kept the pan, but the yami did everything so much better including stopping so hard it made my head spin. I've been having some trouble with the CV carbs going lean just off idle. I've had them apart three times. It's got to be in the pilot circuit.
Anyway, I think you couldn't go wrong with the PP256, unless you have the extra money and space for separate machines. I don't mind making the switch from welder to plasma, not really a big deal, you'll love it.

deranged- Thanks for the comment, I love building these things. Good eye, its a stock frame that I cut and hardtailed, 4" stretch 2" drop. Glad you liked it.
dirtyfarmer- yeah I would love an old panhead to chop, they are just too damn hard to find anymore and everyone wants top dollar for them. As for those carbs, they may need re-sinked to get them all singing the same tune, just a thought. Thanks for the heads up on the pp256 im really getting excited to order one, Im just trying to be patient they are still a big chunk of change.
