Robotic welding is one of the developments in welding industry and it uses the mechanized programmable tools and does a welding process by performing the weld and handling the part. It is automatically guided machines which do the tasks on its own. Robot welding is used in resistance spot welding and arc welding. The major components of arc welding robots are the manipulator, mechanical unit and the controller that acts as the robot’s brain. After 1980s, robot welding developed a lot and now robot welding has been used in many applications.

There are two popular types of industrial welding robots. They are articulating robots and rectilinear robots. Rectilinear robots move in line in any of three axes (X, Y, and Z) and also there is a wrist attached to the robot to allow rotational movement. Articulating robots employ arms and rotating joints and these robots move like a human arm with a rotating wrist at the end.
