Precautions To Be Taken While Gas Welding

Main Hazards of gas welding:

  • Misuse of oxygen
  • Backfires and flashbacks
  • Gas leakage due to hoses, values and other equipment
  • Repairing tanks or drums which contain flammable materials
  • Handling lighted blowpipe carelessly can cause injury to the user or others.
  • If blowpipe is used close to combustible material it can result in burns.

Lighted blowpipes:

By following these methods you can prevent injury caused by lighted blowpipes:

  • Always wear protective clothing, safety helmets, gauntlets while working
  • Keep hoses away to prevent heat, sparks or hot spatter
  • Work in a safe area
  • Shut off the blowpipe when not in use

Following these precautions can prevent fire:

  • Always keep fire extinguishers close to your work place
  • Ventilate space

Following measures can prevent leaks:

  • Hot metal or spatter should not fall on hoses
  • Keep the equipments in good condition
  • Make sure that equipments are free from faults and leaks
  • Handle cylinders carefully
