- Read the Book: Read the manual properly before starting the welding work. You can get information on safety procedures to be followed while welding from the manual. If the manual is lost or damage, contact the manufacturer for a replacement. You can find manual online also.
- Button up: If your skin is exposed to ultraviolet rays or infrared rays it may harm your skin. Sparks can occur in open pockets, pant cuffs or a shirt that isn’t completely buttoned. While welding, always button shirt collars, cuffs and front packets to prevent sparks. Do not keep matches in your pocket.
- Wear proper gear: While welding, always wear denim pant and a shirt of woven material or a welding jacket. In the past, many welding operator did not wear welding jacket as they were too heavy and hot. But nowadays, welding jacket is made up of flame-resistant cloth and pigskin leather.
- Gloves have progressed beyond the one-size fits all type. Some famous gloves are Heavy duty MIG/Stick gloves, medium duty MIG gloves and TIG gloves.
- Wear right shoes: To protect your foot from getting burnt wear high top leather shoes or boots. Do not wear tennis shoes or cloth shoes.
- Breathe freely: Always work in a ventilated area. Fumes and smoke can pose health hazard. While working, use an exhaust hood to remove fumes from the area and ensure enough clean breathing air is available. Always keep respirators while welding.
- Don’t see the light: Always wear welding helmets while welding. Pick a lens shade appropriate for your welding application.
- Use auto-darkening helmets: The sensors on an auto darkening
helmet darken the lens in a fraction of a second. All auto darkening helmets should meet ANSI standards. - Avoid repetitive stress injuries: Auto darkening helmet
reduces neck fatigue because it is lighter.
