AC Welders use electric voltage directly from an alternating current outlet. DC welders use the same AC voltage but convert it into direct current voltage.
• Both AC and DC Welders are shielded metal arc welders but differ in the electricity they use. Both the options are available in one machine.
• DC welding electrodes can be used only in DC machine.
• AC welding can weld magnetized metal, while DC Welders make a cleaner weld.
• AC Welders are cheaper and can weld thicker metals, but even thinner metals can be welded using DC welding. An AC welder is fine for most home project jobs, but for regular purpose, you will require both AC and DC at same point.
