Atomic hydrogen welding

Monday, June 13th, 2011

The atomic hydrogen welding is carried out with a shielded atmosphere of hydrogen. This welding is a form of arc welding that uses two metal tungsten electrodes for the process of welding.  Tremendous heat is generated by the use of the hydrogen gas. The arc would work towards breaking up the hydrogen molecules. These molecules will later recombine and release tremendous amounts of energy. This energy can be used for welding. Also the presence of hydrogen gas will prevent the weld from contamination from other gasses that might affect the quality of weld. This form of welding is used to weld tungsten together which is one of the most difficult metals to weld due to the high energy requirements. The arc that is formed in maintained independently from the workpieces that are being welded.  The heat of the welding process is controlled by varying the distance between the metal surface and the arc stream.

Equipments of welding

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Most people know the definition of welding by now. At least they should know welding is a term used in manufacturing industries which manufactures heavy and other steel related objects which we are most likely to use on a day to day basis. Nonetheless, welding is a process where two or more metal pieces are joined together with the help of a molten solution. The molten solution on cooling down forms a strong bond between the work pieces. This whole process depends heavily upon electricity and high heat transfer to be a successful one.

As mentioned earlier it is impossible to perform the art of welding without electricity and high heat energy transfer. As such there are certain equipments used in the welding which allows us to perform the necessary. They have actually revolutionized the manufacturing industries and improved the quality of welds beyond measures. Welding equipments as such involve a welding gun, a generator, spool with a nozzle, gas and the work pieces. Gas is necessary for running the generator which gives the necessary electricity and the welding gun along with spool and nozzle allows you to focus the heat energy upon the work pieces. Apart from these there are also welding safety equipments such as welding goggles, shield or mask, welding apparels and gloves etc.

Use of efficient generators in welding

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

We all know that welding is the art of joining two or more work pieces together with the help of a molten solution. The molten solution solidifies on cooling down and forms the necessary bond between the work pieces. Thus eventually this process has revolutionized the manufacturing industries and allowed us to manufacture stronger equipments and other things we use in a day to day basis.

As such the welding is possible only with huge amount of electricity supply and high heat energy transfer. The molten solution which is necessary for forming the bond is generated thanks to this high heat energy. This heat energy is not possible to be generated without electricity supply. Thus they are all interrelated and they work accordingly as a system. One cannot exist without the other.
Usually Dc generators are used for performing the welding task. They provide the necessary required levels of electricity for the job. However, DC generators are quite heavy and not portable. It implies a lot of overhead when you want to shift spaces for convenience. Ever last generators have come up with AC generators for this purpose. The AC set up can step up itself to DC electricity levels and are quite small and portable. They are very efficient and convenient to use. They do not occupy much space which is a big advantage.

Protect yourself during welding

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Welding is an art where iron, steel and other strong materials are joined together with the help of a molten solution which when cooled down forms a solid bond between them. The molten solution is generated using electricity and high transfer of heat energy. As such it involves high intense sparks and heat in the whole process. This process is mainly done to manufacture planes, ships and other kinds of metal appliances and things we use on a day to day basis.

Welding is a very simple process to learn and perform. Anybody who has the likes for it can easily adapt in the industry. However, no matter how easy it might seem to be, it is certainly one among the dangerous activities pursued by mankind. As it involves tremendous amount of heat energy and high intense sparks, it can be quite harmful for us if we are not protecting ourselves with much care. The sparks can damage our eye sight and cause burns in case if skin is exposed to it. The fumes can cause lung and other heart related diseases if inhaled. People have even died catching fire while performing the art. Thus you must always take every necessary measure to protect yourself while you perform welding.

X-ray welding

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

X-ray welding is one of the latest advances in welding technology. Just like the laser beam welding and the electron beam welding, in this type of welding, the thermal heat that is required for the weld is produced with the use of a focused high powered X-ray beam. This high powered beam will initiate a localized melting of the metal that will form the weld once it is cooled down. This process like the electron welding and laser welding again increases stability and is extremely fast. Also the accuracy of the weld is tremendously increased due to the high focus of the beam. However, this shares a common limitation. If the energy is not enough for the beam to penetrate the metal then it would form a molten pool of the metal on the surface. To overcome this, most often, a keyhole is formed in the joint that would let the heat penetrate the metal of the joint.

What is welding?

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011

Welding is the process by the means of which two metals are joined through the application of heat. It is a common industrial process as well and can also be carried out at our homes for simple repairs. When the weld is made with a good forge, it is very hard to detect with the naked eye. Also the joint that is made though welding is strong and this can be used to make solid structures. There are different process associated with welding that increases the effectiveness of the weld. Welding can be used in many situations. This can include joining metals in a bridge together to form a strong connection to joining two metal rods in a window that would complete a structure. This way it has big and small applications. It is one of the primary methods meant for the joining of metals which helps to create strong bonds and connections between metals.

Welding Training and Research

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

There has been a lot of research in the field of welding. The use of welding to join metals has been so widespread that continuous efforts have been taken to improve on the standard and quality on welding. There has been a great amount of research that has gone into the whole process of welding which has resulted in welding becoming a staple and simple means to join two metals together. Today, the equipment that is available for welding help to create stronger joints and also the work can be done with more precision than it originally could have been done. CNC welding has become very popular in the industrial world today. There are many crash courses and workshops that are made for people who would like to take up their career as welders. The best subject to focus on would be CNC welding as this is the current scenario in the world of welding today.

Welding and world war one

Monday, May 30th, 2011

During the times of world war one; the welding process saw a steep surge in their demand. This is because welder the various welding processes were used and required in the machinery that was a part of the war. Ships were made out of the welding process as well as guns and other such equipment were manufactured with the help of welding. Around this time, welding was powered with the help of DC current alone as AC current was not discovered as of yet. However, later on, with the advantages of the AC current over DC, several machines were manufactured to cater to the AC current need of the welding process. This was also because AC current was much easier to handle than he DC current as it could be stepped up or stepped down to suit the need of the project. Thus most machines today also come with a AC current power. This helps to reduce the power consumption of the unit.

Spot welding

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

Spot welding is a very common form of resistance welding. In this welding process, sheet metals that are up to 3mm thick can be joined. The reason why this welding process is very effective is because of the concentrated area of welding that is taken in when the welding process happens. This method makes efficient use of energy and does not waste energy by making long welds. Welding is done in spots, as per the name, which forms hard thick joints which are very effective in holding the two metals together. This method of welding makes it easy to work with limited workspace and also increases the production rate.  There are no filler elements required in this form of welding and the whole process can be easily automated. It should be remembered that the weld strength of this process is comparatively lesser than the other welding methods and hence this method is only suitable in certain applications.
