Inverter Welder v/s Traditional Welders

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Inverter welder might be a new face in the welding industry but it has been gaining popularity very soon. The main reason for the popularity being that it has many advantages over the traditional welders. The main advantage of inverter welder is that it is relatively smaller than the traditional welding equipments and consumes only less power compared to others. Due to the lower power consumption, they can be operated with the household current instead of higher voltage current. Besides they are easily portable owing to their smaller size. They can be carried around in a small suitcase and can be taken to places where it would be tough to manage the conventional welders.

Since the inverter welders require only less power, they can be plugged into any normal 110v wall socket unlike the heavy power consuming traditional welders. This makes the whole welding process easy and moreover there is no need to use the industrial generator. The welding process would be very efficient as the total power costs would be much less. The inverter welders are not prone to ‘dirty power’ from generators and this would avoid bad welds greatly. The inverter welders are available in most of the welding supply stores; both online and offline.

Tips On Reducing Welding Costs

Friday, June 12th, 2009

If you notice nearly 20 percent of the welding cost is related to materials while the rest is attributed to labor and overhead. Hence, if a company saves 10 percent on the material costs of welding, the company is only saving two percent of the total welding costs. But, if a company can save 10 percent on the costs associated with labor and overhead, the company can achieve an eight percent savings on the total welding costs. If companies want to operate efficiently and minimize wasted time, they have to operate in a better position. They should stock up all necessary items like shielding gas, flux and wire. They should also switch to large spools of wire such as from 25 lb. spools to 44 or 60 lb. spools to even larger packages of 1,000 lb reels or 1,000 lb drums.

Another way to reduce welding costs is to delivery of parts to the welding station in an organized and logical fashion. You can create efficiency in welding process by examining wire diameter, wire feed speed, voltage, travel speed, gas type, transfer mode etc. It can be better to double bevel a joint to prepare if for welding rather than single bevel it. Look for ways to modify product designs to eliminate unnecessary welds. Welding costs can be reduced if proper safety techniques are followed.

Learn to Weld

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

If you learn to weld, you can use it on the job or just as a personal hobby. Welding is the most economical and efficient way to join metals permanently. It is the only way of joining two or more pieces of metal to make them act as a single piece. Welders help build metal products from coffeepots to skyscrapers. There are nearly 100 types of welding. There is some difference in each type. You will learn the difference in each type when you start welding. There is little bit of difference in each type of welding due to molecular nature of materials, required precision or due to the environment where welding takes place. For example: an astronaut may use an electron beam to weld thermoplastics when working on a satellite in space.

When you have learnt to weld, see to it that you give prime importance to safety. While welding always wear protective equipment to avoid burns. Always wear thick leather gloves, long sleeved apparel, goggles and specialized headgear to protect eyes from ultraviolet light. You can also learn to weld by reading a do-it-yourself (DIY) book on the subject or attending a workshop class. You can also learn to weld at a reasonable rate by attending private programs and educational courses taught in trade schools. If you attend a few weeks of training classes you can get enough knowledge for a low-skill job in welding. If you have several years of experience you can get a highly skilled job. Most of the welding work is done in manufacturing industry. Some of them include automobile manufacturing, aerospace applications and shipbuilding. Some people may attend welding classes so that they can do home repair.
