What are GTAW welders used for?

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

The short form of Tungsten Inert Gas is TIG. The first name given to this welding was Heliarc. That’s because this machine used helium (He) gas. Then later it was discovered that argon and hydrogen gas worked better. So it is now called as Gas Tungsten Arc Welding because of inert of gases. These cut the metal in very neat manner. They can cut almost all types of metal. This is a very unique form of welding metals. The Tig welders can affect your retina while cutting the metal. So it is better to wear working goggles which will protect your eyes. Some of the thing required for Tig welders are:

  • Metal thickness
  • Machine efficiency
  • Quality of the welder

These are generally used by the space and automobile industries. That’s because it gives a neat finished product. These welders can be a bit difficult for the beginners to use. The beginners need to practice on scrap metal pieces so that the larger pieces are cut neatly. The welders are highly expensive but are worth it for their finished product.

What To Look For In A Tungsten Electrode

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

The tungsten electrode is used with three different welding processes or procedures. These electrodes are made for the; Plasma arc, Gas tungsten arc, and Tungsten inert gas welding processes. This equipment has been designed to be used with the tungsten electrode.

This tungsten stone is made up of a shiny metal white in coloring. This stone is known for having the capability of maintaining one of the highest melting points when it comes to elements. They are also known for having very high boiling points for a metal. These aspects are what makes them unique. Because of their abilities to withstand very high temperatures and their durability, they are a must for some welding techniques.
