Aluminum welding

Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

One of the most difficult alloys to weld is the aluminum for it should be cleaned from exterior before welding. Spaced out from standard techniques such as gas, plasma, and others: aluminum welding techniques include tig and mig welding!

For welding thicker aluminum work pieces at a faster rate and to achieve long and continuous welds mig welding technique is best. On the other hand the tig technique is used for good facade finishes. Generally it includes pipe welding and casting repairs.

The best think to concentrate is on the wire feed welder, the wire should be loaded properly into the machine. As there are loads of possibilities for it to get disrupted in the middle it is a must to clean the aluminum thoroughly to avoid defects.

Spot welding

Monday, February 27th, 2012

One of the oldest welding processes is the spot welding which has been used in a wide range of industries. It is a sort of resistance welding where the spot welds are made at periodic intervals on overlies sheets of metal.

For joining parts that are usually up to 3 mm thickness spot welding is done. Width of the part to be welded must be equal else the ratio of the thickness should be less than 3:1.

In general three steps are followed for spot welding and they are:

1)      In the very first step the electrodes are brought to the surface of the metal and pressure is applied to it.

2)      The current from electrodes are applied for a short span of time.

3)      Finally the current is detached and the electrodes are left, to cool the material.

This method is used to join sheet materials and it makes use of shaped copper alloy electrodes to apply pressure and put across the electrical power through the work pieces.

An insight into plasma cutters

Friday, February 24th, 2012

With the advent in technology there are several equipments that fill up the space and the plasma cutters are of one such type, which is of great use to the welding industry.

To put it in simple, plasma cutting is a method that brings into play a high velocity of ionized gas that is set free from a contracting maw. The plasma cutters cut the metal using a plasma torch.

The utmost benefits of plasma cutting takes into consideration, the faster cutting tactics along with the easiness to use and high quality cuts. In General the plasma cutters are an easy to use tool as it cuts the steel and electrically conductive metals easily. But it requires high electrical voltages so it is a must to take necessary steps for precaution.  Insulated boots and gloves are a must while welding.

It is perfect for cutting steel and non-ferrous substance that are less than 1 inch in thickness. It is one such easy process for a beginner and a much safer way to cut metals.

What is shielding gas in welding?

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Gases which avert atmospheric pollution of the weld puddle and some of the inert gases include argon and helium. The main purpose is to shield the weld area from atmospheric gases, such as oxygen, nitrogen, and water vapor.

The atmospheric gases can cut the quality of the weld or make the welding process more difficult and it depends upon the materials being welded. The option of shielding gas made an assortment of dissimilarity to the simplicity of welding. Conjointly it has an impact on numerous other phases of the process, and it takes into consideration the welding torch travel speed and the superiority of the weld deposit in completed form.

The application of shielding gas plays a major role in welding, on the other hand the ability to cut and heat depends heavily on acetylene, for welding a wide range of gases are used as shielding gas.

This gas averts other gases in the environment from dropping the excellence of the welding process.

The three-in-one combination makes a weapon for welding effectively

Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

It is necessary to have good welding machines for a good welding process. The three in one combination of welding equipments are effective. It consists of the tig welders, plasma cutter and arc welders. This combination is widely used in industries as it produces a successful result. Tig welding for instance allows stronger and higher quality welds and many engineers prefer this type of welding. Arc welding has low hydrogen properties and it matches well with the mechanical and chemical properties of the base material. It is an old method of welding but is still popular and in use. It is popular largely for its weld characteristics.

Plasma cutter is a relatively new technology that is used to cut steel and metals of different thickness.

While purchasing the equipments make sure to check the capacity of the machine and be ahead of others by choosing the machine cutting the metals faster and quickly than others.

Welding is a step by step process not relying entirely on the supplies

Thursday, February 16th, 2012

There are bigger concerns to a welding business than getting merely welding supplies. The environment for the welding is a important aspect that needs to be considered.

It is important to get a good Tig welder, and a good mig welder to finish the job of welding successfully.

It is recommended to opt for Lincoln or Miller for both the tig and mig welding machines. Welding process is the backbone of all manufacturing activities. This fact needs to be recognized first of all. The new guy on the block is Plasma cutter. It is new invention that is making waves in the field of welding. Apart from plasma cutting, plasma gouging is also carried out in the same machine. It is necessary for a welder to have proper control over the add-ons used in the process such as welding guns and torches. They are very important from the welding stand point as they are instrumental in avoiding fire accidents.

The pros and cons of a fuel saving generator

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012

A little knowledge is always dangerous. It is necessary to be aware of the disadvantages of a diesel generator before knowing the advantages of it. The unsustainable thunderous noise it produces is the most influential of all its disadvantages. The second disadvantage which affects majority of people is the hindrance it causes to ignite specially in cold climate. The biggest advantage of this generator is the fuel it uses. Diesel is available for far cheaper rates compared any other fuels. The efficiency of this fuel is also high.   The pros and cons of any electrical machine depends entirely on the maintenance of the machine. All machine requires proper service to produce the required output, diesel generator is also a machine in this respect.
