The metal arc welding electrodes are used for welding or joining two metals together. When we talk about these electrodes we also have to talk about the coating of the electrodes. There are heavy coated electrodes and light coated electrodes.
There are also bare electrodes. There are several factors by which the right electrode is chosen. Resistance to corrosion is the most important on the list.
The electrodes must be coated so that they are resistant to atmospheric corrosion which would otherwise render them useless. Material ductility is another factor that is considered before choosing the coating.
Also the position of the weld is necessary to choose the material as well. Another very important factor that should be chosen to choose the metal arc electrodes is the strength of the weld that is required. If you choose an in adequate electrode then it may affect the quality of the work.

There are many factors that you should consider before you choose the right electrode for welding. First you should consider the type of metals that are being used. You cannot universally use the same electrode for every metal you weld together.
What you use for aluminum and brass will not be the same as you use for steel. Next is the resistance to corrosion by the electrodes. This is an important property for the storage of electrodes. If you are buying electrodes in a bulk for the use of a long term project, you should defiantly keep this factor in mind. Next is the type of coatings that these electrodes would carry.
Electrodes may be consumable or non consumable. A consumable electrode may melt during the welding process and add to the strength of the weld. Therefore it would depend on the type of welding process you are using to join two metals.

The shielded metal arc welding is also known as the manual metal arc welding. A consumable electrode is used in this process. The consumable electrode is coated in flux and is used to lay the weld.
The electric arc is formed between the electrode and the metal to be joined with the help of the current that is supplied from the electric welding machine. The flux coating of the electrode will degenerate and vaporize. This will result is a gas that will protect the area of weld and a slag that will help to join the two metals. This welding process is suitable to be used outdoors.
This welding process is used for cast iron stainless steel as well as welding steel. A welding power supply is provided by this setup that will provide the constant power supply. Also provided with the setup is an electrode holder and a work clamp.

Underwater welding is carried out mostly in ships. This is a process of welding where the process is carried out submerged in water. This is most commonly used in ships as the hull of the ship might require frequent repairs in the operation of the ship on the sea.
If there are holes in the hull or the body then the water will fill in the ship that would cause damage to the ship. Therefore repairs on the go have to be taken care of while the ship is still sailing.
Underwater welding will help to fix the ship promptly and save the trouble of docking the ship and then repairing it. This welding procedure however will require extremely bulky equipment and also specialized workers to carry on the welding process.
However this process is relatively much cheaper than setting up offshore equipment that would be otherwise required to repair the ship damage.

There are different types of electrodes that are used for the creation of electric arc. These electrodes should be of good quality if they are supposed to be of any use.
If they are not of good quality then they can easily spoil the whole process of welding. These metal electrodes consist of chemical wires that are covered in chemical coating. The arc of for welding is stabilized by the virtue of the structure of the electrode.
There are various factors that determine the type of welding materials that are used. The first factor that is to be considered is the type of metal that is being used for welding. The machine being used and the work conditions as well contribute to the type electrodes that is being used for welding.
This means that you cannot use the same electrode you are using to weld steel that you would normally use for aluminum or brass.

You might have decided to purchase a welder for yourself. There are a couple of things that you should remember before you purchase your welder.
There are different types available in the market. To make your choices clearer you should be first clear with the purpose of buying a welder. Are you pursuing welding as a hobby or are you planning to go professional?
The various applications that the welder can handle are dependent on the built in features that come along with the welder. You should also keep in mind the amount of power that is required to work the welder.
Do you have access to the required power necessary for the arrangements? If you don’t then you might want to purchase an additional power kit. Also you should consider if the welders are portable. If they are portable they can be moved along with you in your work area. This would make your work simpler.

The types of welding equipment differ from model to model. However there are some standard parts that have to remain the same. The first such part is a torch.
The torch usually is built in the welder. However you can also purchase a euro torch separately. This is done for your specific purpose. It is also available at a relatively cheap price.
This is also a good idea because torches that are bought separately will last longer than the ones that come with the welder. The second standard equipment is the gas regulator. The gas regulator is used to regulate the flow of gas and the pressure. You can either get single or twin gas regulators.
Twin gas regulators will help you to regulate the flow rate of the gas as well as the pressure. However you should also remember that the twin gas regulators will be costlier than the single gauge ones.

Welding is an important process in metal joining. Whether you are a professional in welding or it is just your hobby, there are certain safety procedures that you must ensure to follow while you are welding. The helmet is one of the most important elements in welding safety.
These helmets often come with glasses. These glasses help you look through the welding spark and well into the welding process. If you are looking at the flame arc with naked eyes, it might damage your eyes after a period of time. This is prevented by looking through a shield or glasses. The advantage with helmets that come with glasses is that you don’t have to hold the shield with one hand.
You have both your hands that you can use for welding. The next thing to wear is gloves. Gloves will protect your hand from electrical shocks as well as sparks from the welding that can be very dangerous to your hand.

The resistance welding method is known to create less pollution and it is a very effective means of welding. Under this method, the most commonly used welding process is the stop welding.
The method is normally used for welding two metal pieces together that are over 3mm thick. This process does not require a filler material, nor is an arc created by this process. This process is known for its effective energy consumption and minimum work piece distortion.
Also high rate of production can be carried out as the process is simple and semi automatic. However you should remember that the welding strength for this kind of process is low. Therefore they are used for only limited number of application.
This type of welding can be used for stainless steel work pieces as well as steel work pieces. They are used for industrial as well as domestic applications and are very effective in quick jobs.

There are many things that you should do for the preservation of electrodes. This is, to keep the electrodes safe until you use it again for the next project. The self preservation of electrodes depends upon the properties of the electrodes themselves.
One of the key elements here is that the electrodes that you purchase are meant to be kept dry. Humidity will lower the quality of the electrodes. Humidity will affect the quality of the coating which would in turn reduce the quality of the weld. There are special ovens available for preheating of the electrodes before they are put to use.
This pre heating is done to remove all moisture from the electrodes. With the removal of all traces of humidify from the electrodes, the welding procedure can be carried on successfully. Also these electrodes are kept in a moisture proof environment so that future damage can be avoided.
