Lowering your MIG amp even lower

hey was over at a old timers welding shop neat trick to lower amps on mig welder . he has a mig old miller mig and he figured out a way to lower amps for welding thin stuff . he told me it was a old welders trick he learned just with a piece of stainless steel welding rod . just don't touch wire after welding lol.

Yeah, that's a pretty cool tip. Adds a bit of resistance to the circuit(?)

Just need to label the turns and thickness for each turn. I might try that today on some sheet metal, have some 1/16 and 3/32 316L.

just mic it it .125 thickness rod . what i est only need like 12 inches long since when i put my ground clamp at the very way to low on amps . dont touch the welding rod gets hot lol

I suppose if somebody was into the maths, he could calculate the resistance for a particular rod and get some semblance of accuracy.

I like Rambozo's battery tester idea, I'll have to be on the lookout for one of those.
