Thread: UpPipe For a Rotated Turbo Subaru Forester

  1. #1

Default UpPipe For a Rotated Turbo Subaru Forester

The up pipe is made out of 2.25" 11 gauge mild steel and I choose to have a long smooth bend in order to maximize flow and hopefully help with spooling the turbo. The turbo is going to be a AGP/Borg Warner S261.

That isnt the turbo I am going to be using it was just used to picture how it will sit.

I am also making a clear hood scoop delete so that way you can see into the engine bay.
I sandblasted the pipe and am currently in the middle of coating the pipe with VHT Flameproof.

Will you port and polish the heads and intake? With stock heads and intake how much air flow can you have?

Usually no need to do anything to the heads unless you are really trying to push it. Stronger valve springs maybe if the boost is going to be significant, but it probably isn't going to be very high boost on that application.

Yeah I probably wont port the heads. I will be running moderate boost of 18-20psi which is normal since it was already a turboed vehicle. Eventually I will probably build the heads and such.

Those things are factory turbo'd? I didn't know they had a turbo option for those.

Where I grew up we have an Air Force base in our town. One of my friends worked there mowing all summer. This family had an older Subaru wagon 4x4 for sale, and my buddy bought for $130.00 because they were getting shipped over seas. They could not kill that car! They jumped and would get 6 feet of air over and over again. They ran it through a creek in 2-3 feet of water, and never killed that car. It got to be a running joke about what they could do to that car to kill it. At the end of the summer they cut off the roof and made a convertible. I think someone gave a $100.00 for it. That car was an absolute beast!

Thats what I have heard, unfortunately these cars do not like when you push the boost to much on them. I have a feeling the engine is going to come out next year to be built. Hopefully I will have some funds so I can build it before it blows and not risk damaging the block or heads.

    Boost, Timing, static Compression.

    Pick two.

I helped in preparing Colin McRae and Travis Pastrana's Sobe Gold X Games 10 cars.

Vermont Sports Cars built the car, and we had a 4wd dyno for tuning at F1Dyno in Portland, Me.

They hired a Guy from Autech Engine management in Australia, he did all the tuning, even start-up maps.

The timing was around 38* @ WOT, which is crazy dangerous even on 100octane.

He was explaining that because the Two halves of the EJ case that wrap around the crank centerline actually stretches, so the crazy timing advance was to "Baseball pitch" the spark into the Combustion chamber.

This is the type of tuning that would normally melt an engine, but those guys in Aus know whats up!

You can't make this stuff up. This guy was so smart, I felt like I learned 2 yrs of college in 2 hours!
