Hi
I think adding a For Sale / Wanted section would be a good addition to the site. The membership is growing and if I am looking for a used tool or machine I have to go to other welding related sites. It would be nice to be able to find what I need here.

I had that same thought the other day. Any type of long-distance purchase transaction has some uncertainty to it, and in a FS / WTB section on this board you'd have a much better shot at knowing who you're dealing with.

We can take a look at it, I have been thinking about us adding a regional section as well. Any other sections?

No other section ideas, but I like the region idea. I've read a number of threads where guys figure out they're pretty near each other, and get together to work out problems or try machines. It would also be easier to transport equipment in a purchase transaction if buyers and sellers were close to each other.

Regional would be nice, a classified section would be awesome. A classified section broken up by region would be sweet too.

The forsale/wanted is a good idea, maybe I will add that today time allowing. Though it will be hard to beat Craigslist, you would know a number of the players you are dealing with. Also, most people here have heavy tools, so not sure on that one.
The region idea is good, but I think it would be better by state and a lot of work.
I know Mark would drive a state or two or three to help someone, where me, I will go 1-2 hours and you better have some hunting or fishing, something to ride/drive when we are done. :)
Mark, let me know your thoughts on the regional sections. I'd hate to add 50 states and see Texas with 200 and others with no one, but also think Southeast and the number of states it covers and distance and no one willing to travel.

I don't see a need to add 50 states. Regional sections would work just fine.

Start small and grow into it.
Classified and regional say north east, South east, South, Central North and south west yo start. Its not so much about how far someone wil travel to henp but more about finding members closer to you for what ever reason be it help swapping ideas or parts and tools.
For example. Here is how a dodge SRT forum does it
US Regional Forums
New England NY/NJ/PA
Mid-Atlantic Area South/Southeast
Florida Forums Midwest
Great Plains Texas
Mountain (1309/17824) Southwest (3614/62633)
California Forums Northwest
International Forums
Canadian Mexican Forums (121/1551)
Overseas/Foreign (2873/42123)

Hard to compete with something as national and established as Craig's List, but this forum provides the "I know a guy that knows a guy that wants to sell one of those" aspect that CL cannot.
One way to regionalize the "For Sale / Want to Buy" section would be to suggest (perhaps via sticky post) that every post should carry the poster's home state (or eventually, a region name) in parentheses. That way a user could perform an advanced search looking for his home state or region in the post's title and find items that are nearby, if that's what they want. I bet, though, that people will read every post just to see what's going on.

DaveO,
I thought about that on the other request (regions). People just post where they are in the title and other just join in if they are nearby. No maintenance for us here.
Would work great on for sale/wanted.
Maybe we make it "For sale/Items wanted/Looking for help on a project" and they include the City/State in the title. That would mean just one forum. Sure we will be cleaning it up a lot. But a good idea.
I figure most guys selling here are talking heavy items. I have an BIG O/A set I want to sell, but one tank alone would break the bank on shipping.
