The new line of DC inverter stick welders are leading the industry in price and performance. With excellent stick (SMAW) capabilities, these units can be used in about any place you have 220V single phase current. The IGBT components from Infineon, allow the Power ARC welders to perform at the highest duty cycles available in the industry for welders in this class. With the lightweight and compact design, gone is the need for long and expensive leads, allowing you to literally sling the unit under your arm to carry it right to the site of the weld....
PowerARC units have a special E 6010 setting for true pipe and contstruction welding performance, and a regular setting for smooth and easy 7018 welding or the rod of your choice. They have hot start and adaptive arc force control that provides smooth stick free starts and excellent arc characteristics. They also feature infinite control of amps and digital display for precise setting of amps when it is called for. The PowerArcs have proven themselves a reliable performer, in the field and in the garage. If you are looking for a basic TIG (GTAW) power source for DC TIG welding, then the PowerARC easily doubles as a TIG unit with a smooth DC tig arc. All that is needed is an optional gas valve torch and regulator which can be bought from Everlast or through your local welding supply store.[read more...]

Shielded Metal Arc Welding process (SMAW), commonly referred to as stick welding. Stick welding process has low start-up costs, is portable, can be used outdoors without special arrangements, has all-position welding capability and is usable on variety of materials.
Stick welders are most basic type of welding equipment. They are also called arc welders. It is a small machine that produced AC and/or DC current to heat a small, coated stick electrode made of steel, with a ground clamp completing the full circuit.
Stick welding is mostly widely used and recognizable form of arc-welding. Stick welding can be used by small welding shop, by a homeowner, by farmer for repair purpose and by industrial fabrication applications and other commercial metals joining.
Tips on stick welding
Arc length:
Select the correct arc length for the job and material you are working on. Do not place the electrode too close to the material to be welded, since doing so will decrease the power of the welder.
Travel speed:
Watch the travel speed of the welder over the joint. Traveling too quickly means poor penetration of the welder, which undercuts the weld joint and creates higher than necessary beads in the weld joint.
Current setting:
Choose current setting based on the diameter of the material being welded as well as the type of electrode currently on the welder.
Safety
- Welding can be dangerous if you don’t follow these safety rules:
- Take precautions with flying materials when chipping slag
- Keep electrodes clean and dry - follow manufacturer's recommendations.
- Work in a safe area, free of all flammables, with both a fire extinguisher and a bucket of sand available.
- Read and understand welder's owner's manual
- Exposure to welding arc is extremely harmful to eyes and skin. Prolonged exposure can lead to blindness and burns.
- Never weld unless you are adequately protected. Wear a heavy, long-sleeved shirt, cuffless pants, high-topped shoes, flameproof welding gloves and a protective welding helmet.
