Welding is nothing but joining metals by melting the parts and then using a filler to form a joint. Welding can be done for housing, transportation or manufacturing to repairs. Welding can be done from gas flame, electric arc to a laser. Different welding processes are Arc Welding, Gas Welding, Resistance welding and energy beam welding. Arc welding is done with the help of electric current. It requires inexpensive equipment. In case of Gas welding, it is used for repairing pipes and tubes. It is also used in jewelry industry, plastic and other materials that cannot stand higher temperatures. Resistance welding is environmental friendly among all the methods, but requires costly equipment which cannot be used in all situations. Energy beam welding also known as laser beam welding. It is prohibited in many industries because of high equipment cost. But major advantage is it is fast and accurate. Welding cannot be done for certain metals like stainless steel because they are prone to cracking and distortion when overheated. Nowadays welding is done even in underwater and outer space. Underwater welding is mostly used to repair pipelines and ships.
